Flight School: Crash Course
In my course I will be discussing flight dynamics and how it works in flight and how to apply your animation. Also, I will be discussing the misconceptions when animating flight. In addition, I will be giving some tips when setting up your rig for successful animation flight. Finally, we will watch and analyze animation clips of flying from different films.

The Future of Storytelling
Once again technology has advanced enough to make traditional methods of story telling obsolete. Storytellers now have the power to realize their visions in half the time and for much less money thanks to game engines like Unreal and Unity. The future is here.

Mark Andrews is an Academy Award Winning director of Brave the 2012 Pixar animated film.  He’s worked on numerous Pixar films as Head of Story, Incredibles, Ratatouille as well as being part of the Pixar senior creative team. He Co-directed and Co-wrote the live action blockbuster, John Carter of Mars for Disney Feature. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for his short animated film One Man Band. He’s received an Emmy for his writing and storyboard work on Star Wars Clone Wars the Animated series, as well as an Annie award for storyboarding on Iron Giant.

Onur Yeldan
Onur is a supervising animator based in Los Angeles. He most recently worked on DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys, supervising the Shark character. Some movies he contributed to are How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden WorldTrolls World TourKung Fu Panda 3 and Puss in Boots. He was nominated for Annie Awards for his character animation on Trolls Holiday. He is currently developing an animated short film and illustrating a children’s book.

In this class we will talk about the evolution of tools of the craft from an animation perspective, how these changes affected the industry and provided access for a new generation. From complex nuance performances to the basic principles of stop motion, the integrity and challenges frame to frame are as raw and practical as ever.

Join Kristen as she talks about everything she wishes she was taught in school. From student to freelance animator to a big studio employee – she has tips and tricks to navigate each environment. She will be discussing her journey and what it takes to succeed in the animation industry, important soft skills to have & how to work as part of a team. We will be discussing everything from how to build a successful reel & resume to how to confidently show in a dailies room. This lecture is not technical, but is just as important!

Kristen Willsher
Kristen started at Pixar Animation Studios in 2019 and has worked on Soul, Luca, Dug Days, Ciao Alberto & more. She is currently animating on Win or Lose, Pixar’s first Disney+ streaming series. Her prior experience involved working in commercials, VR & other short-form stories. She is native to the San Francisco Bay Area, loves rock music, sci-fi movies and all things art. 

Casey McDermott

Failure as a Tool
The creative process is tough! In this presentation, Casey will discuss how failure can be used as a tool instead of a detriment in order to navigate the creative process. Finding parallels within other mediums and examples from his own work to illustrate how using a good feedback loop can be used to come up with creative solutions.

 
Casey McDermott Casey has animated professionally since 2008 for film, commercials, music videos, r&d, previz, cinematics, and most recently, in games.  He is an alumnus of Gnomon, Animation mentor and The Animation Collaborative.  Since working at Blizzard from 2012 he has been an animator for World of Warcraft, a lead animator in cinematics and is now a Senior Animator/Game Developer for the Overwatch team.  He has also taught at several schools and has mentored students for the better part of the last decade, a good handful of those students currently work alongside him at Blizzard.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Ticket purchase fee includes non-refundable registration fee of $75.00 USD. Cancellations for refund of remainder of ticket purchase fee will be accepted up to 3 weeks before the event. From 20-10 days before the event, a cancellation fee of $100 USD will apply. From 9 days before the event and after, refunds cannot be provided. Event tickets are non-transferable.

EVENT CHANGES
The Animation Collaborative reserves the right to Cancel the Event if a minimum number of attendees is not reached by two-weeks before the event start date (minimum attendee deadline Jan 7th, 2022)

The event organizer, The Animation Collaborative, reserves the right to cancel or postpone this event with reasonable discretion and for any reason (inclement weather, low enrollment, instructor illness, or any other unforeseen disruptive circumstances). In the case of cancellation by The Animation Collaborative, the full event fee, including the registration fee of $75.00 USD, will be refunded. If the event is postponed, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund, or transfer their registration to the rescheduled event. In all cases, The Animation Collaborative shall have no further liability beyond the event fee. We regret that any transportation and hotel costs, cancellation penalties, or any other non-recoverable costs incurred by registrants are not refundable. In the event of any unforeseen last-minute scheduling problems, we reserve the right to substitute an equivalent, qualified instructor who might not be listed in the class description.

RECORDING: A pen and paper are recommended for taking notes. Laptop/tablet computers are permitted, but please no recording with these or other devices. NO AUDIO OR VIDEO RECORDING OF THE PRESENTED MATERIAL OF ANY KIND IS PERMITTED.
