COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Ever wanted to learn a different workflow? Layered is 1 of many approaches to animation. In my experience, I would almost say it’s an opposite approach to the Pose-Pose style.

Pose to pose Workflow is fundamentally about few keys with a larger number of controls that make up those keys. It focuses heavily on story telling posing.

Layered workflow is about many keys with very few controls. It’s focusing heavily on story telling timing.

I’ve been using this approach for the last 18 years professionally. Like all workflows it has its pros and cons. In this class we will be learning the workflow through small assignments, working our way up to something more complex. We will also focus on both physicality as well as performance.

SAMPLE ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Head Turn / Take / Settle
  • Character Sitting Down
  • Wall Climb
  • Simple Dialog

PREREQUISITE:

We recommend that students take Fundamentals of Animation before taking Learn to Layer.

*Learn to Layer is limited to 10 students to allow for maximum individualized focus. We encourage a comfortable, collaborative environment so that students can learn from their own assignments, the critiques of others’, instructor demos, lectures, and guest speakers.
