COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to Body Mechanics is for students with a strong understanding of the 12 principles of Animation, and want to continue to build their body mechanics skills. Picking up where Fundamentals of Animation leaves off, Introduction to Body Mechanics will guide students in applying the fundamentals alongside new concepts and techniques to further their understanding of weight and movement. Learning these skills become critical before moving onto more advanced assignments and pantomime performances in the following class, Advanced Body Mechanics.
The goal of Introduction to Body Mechanics is to build a solid understanding of mechanics and physicality through the practice of animating basic biped movements. Preparing the student for the next class (Advanced Body Mechanics) which will introduce the idea of Pantomime performance.

- Stand-Sit
- Ball and Legs Walk (Vanilla)
- Walk (Vanilla Full Body)
- Run (Vanilla Full Body)
- Pull or Lift a heavy object
- Throwing an object
PREREQUISITE:
We recommend that students take Fundamentals of Animation before taking Introduction to Body Mechanics.
*Introduction to Body Mechanics is limited to 8 students to allow for maximum individualized focus. We encourage a comfortable, collaborative environment so that students can learn from their own assignments, the critiques of others’, instructor demos, lectures, and guest speakers.
